WOONSOCKET, R.I. -- As the Internet-based drug store that had made the greatest commitment to pharmacy, Soma.com seemed to be a natural candidate for acquisition by a drug chain looking to enhance its online presence.

And that is exactly what happened earlier this year when CVS Corp. agreed to pay $30 million to buy the Seattle-based electronic drug store.
