(CW HENDERSON PUBLISHER www.newsfile.com) -- Core promoter and precore mutations appear to be profoundly associated with hepatitis B virus levels in patients receiving interferon therapy.

Patients with chronic hepatitis generally lose hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg) to anti HBe in the natural course of infection.

Seroconversion from HBeAg to anti-HBe is encoded by the core gene, which contains two start codons, identifying precore and core regions. Mutations in the precore region can form a stop codon, and the precore mutant is unable to synthesize and secrete ...
