The Boston Housing Authority (BHA) has agreed to pay $1.5 million to settle allegations that at least 13 Blacks and Hispanics were harassed by other tenants because of their race. The alleged incidents took place between 1992 and 1996 at two housing projects in South Boston and Charleston that were almost entirely White before the housing authority began to desegregate them in 1998.
The settlement provides $650,000 for the 13 plaintiffs, $500,000 for attorneys' fees, and $350,000 for other public housing tenants who come forward with valid claims of racial ...
