Bolsover Castle is finally gaining the recognition it richly deserves as one of the treasures of western Europe and the most beautiful house in England, after so many years of public and scholarly neglect. The castle was designed primarily as a retreat for pleasurable retirement and to delight and intrigue its visitors. It consists of three major blocks of buildings. Research has unearthed a new light upon the relationship between the castle, its 17th-century owner and author Ben Jonson.
