More than 100 mine sites containing both copper and cobalt have been identified in the Katanga Crescent, Congo. The country, with metallic cobalt reserves estimated at 600,000 tons, is expected to regain its major position in world cobalt production once it shifts its attention from copper to cobalt. Cobalt minerals found in Katanga include cattierite, comblainite, kolwezite, sphaerocobaltite, dolomite, cobaltoan calcite, carrollite, siegenite, heterogenite and oursinite.
