BACH: THE COTHEN YEARS

On this day in 1717, Bach became the Kapellmeister in Cothen (KUR'- ten).

It wasn't a great gig. But it WAS very definitely a means of escaping from Weimar (VIGH'-mar)...where the Duke was such a jerk that he jailed Bach for awhile for the crime of insisting upon resigning.
