Ballet seeks sponsor for Asian shows.

Sponsorship of the Australian Ballet's performances in Asia could be one way to overcome regional business barriers, according to the Ballet's director of development, Mr Kenneth Watkins.

He said companies which sponsored performances could offer Asian guests an Australian cultural icon.

The Australian Ballet could also act as a mediator in business dealings and introductions, he said, citing an experience with ANZ Bank in Taiwan about six years ago.

"ANZ Bank couldn't speak to the governor of the bank in Taiwan ... so we invited the governor to come to a performance ...
