Country's Joe Henry is all over the musical map.

As the expression goes, Joe Henry was country when country wasn't cool. But here's the catch: Now that country is cool again, Henry is nowhere near it.

Originally an acoustic-based songwriter, Henry has spent the past few years in left field. His last album, "Trampoline," adopted an edgier rock-influenced sound, winning critical raves and scaring some old fans away.

And when he hit the House of Blues this week, he was off on another tangent. His new band sounds steeped in funk and reggae; the songs are full of bottom-heavy ...
