A touch of technology: touch-screen technology is making its way into the retail business. Will grocers be left behind?

At the FMI MarkeTechnics show in New Orleans, La., in February, a number of point-of-sale (POS) displays incorporated touch-screen technology in place of the old standard keyboards. In fact, one technical person told me that the fastest growth in touch-screen technology over the next few years will be in the areas of customer kiosks and POS terminals. Many non-grocery retail chains are already using or planning to use this technology for their POS systems.
