The United States plays the dominant role in immunology research but is not the world leader in some of the field's specialties including transplantation and immunosuppressive drugs, according to a new government report.

A panel of the National Academies of Sciences and Engineering and the Institute of Medicine compared US accomplishments in immunology research with all other countries in the world.
