The efforts being put into the protection of the Kauila turtles of Hawaii's East Island are detailed. These legendary creatures were disappearing at record rate when the wildlife agencies devised a plan to start caring for and nursing the existing population. Their feeding habits and behavior are given as some of these turtles can weigh upwards of 500 pounds. The conservation efforts are given.
