"You've come a long way baby" was the ad theme for a cigarette brand aimed at distaff smokers.
It's also a brief summation of Fortant de France, the pioneering French wine marketer which saw France's vast Languedoc vineyards as not a source of vinous embarrassment but as a bright spot in future French viticulture and winemaking.
The "you've come a long way" tag is in reference to the fact that the Fortant brand reached 2.5 million cases in sales in less than 10 years (as of 1997). It has 30% of the French varietal wine market.
