Year-end revenues for the companies in the SDI Laboratory Equipment and Distributor Index rose 7.9% over the prior year's revenues. This increase bested the 5.0% rise achieved in 1997. Third quarter revenues for the companies in the index rose 8.0% and, despite some early fears of a weak fourth quarter by some companies, sales increased 10.3% in the final quarter of the year.
