Some 109 books dealing on English Renaissance that were published in 1998 highlight the enormous achievement accomplished in the field in the past year. The works, which continue to maintain a high level of quality in terms of depth and vibrancy, contain areas of interests where further studies are expected to reveal more important results. The past year's literary study production encourages a sense of optimism against a crisis in the humanities that is expected to become permanent.
