Utopia as a sociopolitical goal continues to change. Unlike the theoretical representations of the 1800s, contemporary versions do not emphasize specific ideals but rather the avoidance of unpleasantness. Utopia is no longer an earthly paradise, but the prevention of further deterioration. Political implications include avoidance of fascism, environmental degradation and cultural de-evolution.
