The ecologically conscious design of the Consorcio-Vida office building in Santiago, Chile, was conceptualized by architects Enrique Browne and Borja Huidobro. The building features rows of vertical hanging gardens at its west side to protect offices from solar gain and overheating. Aside from reducing solar gain by about 60%, the planted trellises were placed 1.5 meters away from double glazed, low emissivity panels, to provide west-facing offices with a curtain of greenery.

Swathed in lush vertical greenery, this office block makes inventive use of planting to control solar gain.
