The Provider Reimbursement Review Board has created a pilot mediation program to address concerns related to increases in the number of appeals of Medicare payment disallowances. The mediation program, which expedites the resolution of issues, allows a provider to have the payment dispute mediated just after the appeal is filed. Nursing facilities, which are paid under the Medicare prospective payment system, can utilize the program to resolve payment disputes.
