Any jewish or christian feminist worth her salt knows that the biblical writings are products of patriarchal cultures. By and large, men dominated the public sphere, proclaimed the divine messages, governed the nation, and comprised the few who were able to read and write.
At least that's the way things usually appear in the Hebrew Scriptures. Imagine, then, a story set in Jerusalem in 621 B.C.E., where a king sends the five most highly placed men in the country to consult with a woman about a national and spiritual crisis--and nobody seems to bat an eye about her ...
