Some groups of information are marginalized, reflecting the same biases that exist in culture. The Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) has come under criticism for its treatment of information on minorities and women. Existing classifications such as the DDC need not be abandoned, because all systems will result in some exclusion. However, a new theoretical framework for classification may solve some of the problems.
