The Franco-Greek bid by Lafarge SA and Titan Cement Company to take joint control of the Egyptian Beni Suef Cement Co, has been given the go-ahead by the European Commission, it confirmed on March 4. After a brief scrutiny of the case by its Merger Task Force, the Commission found that the deal will not affect only the domestic market in Egypt and therefore had little problem giving it the green light.
