Food Additive Petitions That Provide Food Safety Solutions Reviewed by FDA.

In an effort to bolster food safety initiatives, FDA will give top priority to reviewing food additive petitions for products designed to decrease the risk of foodborne illness, according to new guidance published by the agency Currently, the petitions are considered in the order they are submitted and can take years to be approved.

Specifically, expedited review will be given to food additives intended to significantly decrease pathogenic strains of E coli, Salmonella, Campylobacter, Cyclospora, and Listeria or their toxins that may be present in food. According to ...
