ICI PAINTS TO PEEL OFF 100 JOBS.

Cleveland-based ICI Paints, a unit of Imperial Chemical Industries PLC of London, will shed about 20% of its 500 local jobs over the next year to cut costs.

The 100 jobs will be trimmed from its downtown Cleveland headquarters and its research and development center in Strongsville, said John O'Rourke, vice president of human resources for ICI Paints North America. Mr. O'Rourke said the layoffs have begun and will be completed in early 2000.

There are 400 employees at ICI Paints headquarters, 925 Euclid Ave., and about 100 at the R&D center, 16651 W. Sprague Road.
