ONCE revolutionary, the steam engine is now the epitome of old-fashioned technology. But the motors of the industrial revolution have not run out of steam just yet. This week, in Winterthur, Switzerland, the most advanced large steam locomotive ever built is being tested at the Swiss Locomotive and Machine Works (SLM)-a division of a conglomerate called Sulzer.
