Painting with light to make photographs is nothing new, but rarely practiced. The technique has been used to photograph architectural structures, caves and other subjects that would be difficult or impossible to light in one exposure. It involves sequential flashes or continuous light at different appropriate angles while the camera's shutter is kept open in the dark.
