British television companies are hampered by elaborate and outdated government regulations, and the domination of the government-financed British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). Though Britain may be known for quality programming, the television industry is dominated by America, Canada, Australia and Japan. The BBC should shrink and possibly become a subscription service, allowing other networks such as Independent Television (ITV) to grow and compete.
