According to a recent report from independent Business Builder's new sponsor, Swedish Match, the UK lighter market is worth 36.5m [pounds sterling], of which the company -- with its Cricket, Swan and Poppell lighters -- has a 25% share.

The report shows a continuing shift from matches to lighters for smoking purposes. Swedish Match says it is outperforming the market with its own sales up 10% in 1997 over the previous year, compared to a UK market increase of 4%.
