Mark Whitaker Named First Black Of Newsweek Magazine.(Brief Article)

Newsweek's managing editor, Mark Whitaker, has been promoted to editor the weekly news magazine, succeeding the late Maynard Parker.

Along with Richard Smith, Newsweek's chairman and editor in chief, Whitaker had been running the magazine in Parker's absence during his illness and was considered a favorite to be named editor.
