The mineral cassiterite, a dense hard mineral that exhibits imperfect cleavage, has been generally available from many dealers. It has been known as a source of tine for the manufacture of bronze and tin. In its pure form, the mineral is a simple tin dioxide, containing minor trace amounts of elements such as orthoclase and hematite. Cassiterite is restricted to a variety of deposits genetically associated with igneous rocks.
