Colorado provides some of the best examples of barite crystals in the world. Barite occurs in the state's mineral belt, which runs diagonally from the northeast to the southwest. Golden barite exists in Eagle County. Barite in the Book Cliffs area of Mesa County appear as 3-inch long clear crystals. Barite of different shades of blue exist in Weld County. Thin white barite crystals exist in Ouray County. Clusters thin white blades of barite crystals are found in Mineral County.
