Gold deposits found throughout Colorado during the early 1900s involved gold production from Leadville mines. The silver boom caused gold to become a secondary consideration until a decline in silver prices, which was followed by the Silver Panic of 1893. John F. Campion realized the potential of the gold belt by the 1890s and formed the Ibex Mining Company in 1891.
