The works of four minority artists are compared to analyze the similarities and differences in their use of master narratives to gain personal and professional acceptance. All are illustrations of literary works with political intent. Polich patriot Maurcy Gottlieb's 'Recha Welcoming Her Father' is a scene from 'Nathan the Wise' while African American painter Robert S.
