The Natural Museum of Natural History at the Smithsonian Institution opened the Janet Annenberg Hooker Hall of Geology, Gems, and Minerals on Sept 20, 1997. The hall is part of a planning and renovation process that began in 1988. The gem and mineral galleries that were completed in 1958 were among the most popular exhibits in the Smithsonian institution.
