The theme of this year's VH1 Fashion Awards, which was taped Friday night at Madison Square Garden and aired Tuesday night on VH1, was glam rock, in anticipation of the soon-to-be-released film Velvet Goldmine. But the fashion proceeding paled against knockout musical performances by the likes of Janet Jackson, Madonna, Iggy Pop and Lenny Kravitz, The Brian Setzer Orchestra and the Smashing Pumpkins, making the awards more about rock than glam.
