Genetics Enterobacter Cloacae and Acinetobacter Baumannii Sequenced.

Genome Therapeutics Corp., Waltham, Massachusetts, announced that it is the first to sequence virulent strains of Enterobacter cloacae and Acinetobacter baumannii, two gram-negative bacteria that are major causes of bacteremia (the presence of bacteria in the blood), urinary and respiratory tract infections, and surgical wound infections.

The DNA sequences of these organisms are expected to facilitate the development of novel antibiotics, and are available in Version 4.0 of Genome Therapeutics' proprietary microbial sequence database, PathoGenome.
