Atochem Acquires Hanwha's Polymethyl Methacrylate.

Elf atochem plans to acquire the $24-million/year polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) business of Hanwha Chemical (Seoul). The deal covers the acquisition of two plants at Hanwha's Jinhae site, near Pusan, South Korea. Atochem will acquire a 15,000-m.t./year PMMA resins plant and a 12,000-m.t./year plant to produce PMMA and polycarbonate sheet. It is subject to approval by Korean authorities. Hanwha is one of only two PMMA producers in Korea; the other is LG Chemical, which operates a 37,000-m.t./year unit at Yeochon.
