Phelps Dodge (Phoenix) has reached agreement to buy the Brazilian carbon black business of Minorco's Copebras subsidiary for about $220 million. Copebras operates a 170,000-m.t./year carbon black plant at Cubatao, So Paulo that has sales of about $110 million. The business will be operated by Columbian Chemicals, Phelps Dodge's carbon black subsidiary.
