ALTHOUGH PQ CORPORATION has been making silicates since 1860, the company sees them as anything but old line. This is seen by the company's impending startup of a huge new silicate facility, a move that could alter the global dynamics of the business.
Sodium and potassium silicates, and the sodium silicate derivatives known as zeolites, make up close to two-thirds of PQ's $500 million in worldwide sales.
