Summary: "The development of effective strategies to combat heart diseases in the public health field and in related areas was now a matter of priority", opined European Commissioner Padraig Flynn, who holds the Health portfolio, at the end of a forum organised on May 13-14 in Rhodes by the Greek Presidency of the Council of EU Ministers. In their final communiquC, Health Ministers called for coordination and cooperation at EU level so as to prevent heart diseases, which remain the single largest cause of mortality and sickness in the Union.
