Dock Strike Could Hurt Yule Imports

Apparel importers were caught completely off guard by Wednesday's longshoremen's strike at Northeast ports and if the walkout continues for a couple of weeks some importers predict nightmarish bottlenecks for Christmas and early spring goods.

Apparel shipments were left stranded on vessels in ports from Maine to Virginia, with importers attempting to devise alternate routes for upcoming deliveries. Executives said the strike came as a shock to the industry, noting they would have rerouted shipments away from East Coast ...
