Currently, the total acreage of shrimp farms (shrimp ponds) in South Sulawesi is registered at 79,681 hectares, which produces around 61 thousand tons of shrimps per annum. The annual value of shrimp exports from this province is around US$ 49 million. The following table presents data on the developments in South Sulawesi's shrimp production and exports for 1988-1992.
