Government policy: Diesel Engine Industry

To support the growth of the diesel engine industry in Indonesia, the Government took several measures in the early 1980s, including the so-called 'deletion program', which calls for gradual use of local components towards the realization of full manufacture.
The deletion program was launched in 1983 but its implementation was short of expectations. Through Decree No. 165/M/SK/1986 of the Minister of Industry, the deadline for full manufacture was postponed to early 1989. However, like the first deadline, the second deadline was passed without success.
