On June 30, Jose Sarukhan, rector of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), announced the decision to postpone a proposed tuition hike for the university's 300,000 students. Surukan said the decision was based on recommendations submitted by three subcommittees of the University Council, all of which suggested postponement. The Council is comprised of representatives of UNAM professors, students and staff.
