IT IS SAID--probably apocryphally, but if it isn't true, it ought to be--that when Benny Goodman finished a recording session with the Budapest Quartet, one of the Mitteleuropaisch maestros came up to him and said, You play so well; how is it that you are not better known? He played very well indeed, everything from Fletcher Henderson to Mozart; and it wasn't his fault if not everyone had musical horizons as wide as his own.
