DELRAY BEACH, Fla., March 24 /PRNewswire/ -- When the nation's major money centers announced a drop in the prime rate to 9 percent, everyone waited for South Florida's banks to follow suit. Everyone except Charlie Brier, the president of Equity Bank in Delray Beach.

Driven to lead -- not follow -- Brier immediately announced a cut in Equity's prime rate to 9 percent when the Federal Reserve Board announced a cut in its prime. Then he waited for the "Big Banks" to follow.
