U.N.-bashing runs a close second to Arabbashing in American conservative political discourse these days. The fashion arose in the early 1970s as a reaction to the perceived decline of American power symbolized by the defeat in Vietnam and the loss of unquestioned U.S. control over the United Nations and its subsidiaries.
