ONE OF those 279 programs during the Hiroshima orgy over the weekend featured an elderly scientist of noble mien who was saying in the quiet, dignified accents of the finally enlightened that when, as a young scientist, he was involved in the Manhattan Project, he lost sight of the ethical dimension of it all, so caught up was he, and his colleagues, in the scientific excitement. All of this done as if he were talking about how, as a young boy, he was caught up in the general excitement of the Hitler Youth League.
