NEW YORK (FNS) -- In spite of flat comparable store sales in December, Family Dollar Stores expects sales and earnings growth in the current quarter to be helped by cold weather and income from additional stores.

"Frankly, we lost our comparable store gain during the last five balmy days of December," Lewis E. Levine, president of Family Dollar Stores, told a meeting of the Retail Analysts Group. Comparable store sales had been up 4.1 percent through Christmas week, he added.
