NEW YORK -- Taking The Fur Vault Inc., public last week may have been Fred the Furrier's coup de mink, but teaming up with Bloomingdale's was the real coup d'etat, claim fur industry officials. "It was," said one retailer, "the deal of the century."
The company, headed by chariman and president Fred Schwartz, appeared on the Wall Street ticker for the first time last Thursday, more than four months after its initial preliminary prospectus was greeted with snickers and scorn.
