Alexander Kennedy Isbister's place in the history of Canada has not been forgotten, but the range of his contributions was quite astonishing. Geology is not normally associated with his name, owing to the important role he played, from distant England, in gaining acceptance for the rights of his fellow Metis and settlers of all backgrounds during the years of transition from Hudson's Bay Company rule to that of the new Dominion.
