Canada geese (Branta canadensis) inhabit much of North America, with 15 subspecies varying in size and colour. Canada geese have a distinctive black head and neck with a white cheek patch, and most have a white ring at the base of the neck, a white, greyish-brown breast and belly, brown wings, and black legs and feet. They also have a few impolite habits. They leave mass quantities of droppings and aggressively defend their nests during nesting season. Once well established in an urban area, they tend not to migrate, and can be extremely difficult to get rid of.
